Year 2 is a fun filled year of learning!
We build on aspects that are taught in Year 1 and develop our knowledge in Maths and Reading. This is the year where phonics skills will enable our Year 2 children to read and write independently, using expanded noun phrases, verbs, similes and conjunctions. Not to mention building on our use of punctuation using exclamation marks, question marks, commas for lists and apostrophes for contraction and possession. In Maths we develop our skills of Place Value; Addition and Subtraction; Multiplication and Division and Fractions. We do this in a practical way as well as pictorially and then using an abstract approach to develop the understanding of our specific area of learning.
We aim to read with the children weekly and do this by 1:1 reading and group reading lessons to develop confidence and reading stamina. Our class love to listen to a wide range of books so they can make links between stories they have heard.
We also look at fantastic topic subjects such as the Great Fire of London, our local heroes and Our Wonderful World. These areas of learning enable the children to become historians and geographers researching about the past and their world in an exciting way!
Finally we become Scientist where we learn all about Plants; Uses of everyday materials; Living things and their habitats and Animals including humans. The children love to work scientifically and are encouraged to be curious and ask questions about what they observe!
We work hard but do so in a fun way!
Home Learning will available when appropriate.
