Year 1 is an exciting time at Laceby Acres Academy. The children start to become masters of their own learning.
They are guided and encouraged to become independent learners. The children learn how to read and recognise the different phonics phases using the Essential Letters and Sounds phonics scheme. They do weekly guided reading sessions which enables them, in time, to be able to read books independently and learn at their own pace. They learn about numbers up to 50, fractions, measurements, direction and time.
We incorporate many practical and fun activities into these lessons. We also learn about many other interesting and exciting topics: Our Local Area; People and their Communities; Animals and their Habitats; Family History; the Greatest Explorers and Great Transport Inventions. We sing, we dance, we learn a bit of Spanish, some yoga poses and even learn how to sign basic words using British Sign Language.
We learn and we have fun!
